Argument 1

The middle class is defined as “American households with incomes that fall between the 30th percentile mark and the 80th percentile mark”
  •  Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) reported in the article “Here’s how much money middle-class families earn in every US state”, a middle-class household of three would have to make around $42,000-$125,000 annually to qualify as a middle-class (Elkins p.1).
  • On average middle-class families work around seven to eight hours a day for five days which add up to about thirty-five to forty hours a week. One example of a middle-class profession is teachers. Teachers spend many hours educating the future of our country and receive nowhere closer to million dollars annually.
  • The estimated salary for teacher ranges from $40,000-60,000 thousand yearly depending on the degree and the experience, according to the National Education Association (“Ranking of the States 2017 & Estimates of School Statistics 2018”). The teachers must work longer than their regular hours by grading papers, revising lesson plans and helping students with extracurricular activities. Read More Here: NEA
  • Unlike professional football players, average middle-class workers always need to worry about their health insurance and how to pay for if they get sick while soccer players are covered by their soccer club. Half of the American worry about their health insurance and how to afford money to pay for the monthly premium. (Gallup)
